Hey! Great to see you blogging again. I went through a big break with mine too but it feels good to be back at it. As for your blog name, it could be metaphorical - you are viewing the world from the marvelous hills of homeschooling, which is so much better for your children than the dark valleys of public school. :)

I see you have blogging children, me too. My Moni has a fun blog called From the Learning Room for other homeschool kids to get to know each other through. I'd like to invite you to check it out. http://fromthelearningroom.blogspot.com She uses it for memes and other fun education posts.

I have not completely stopped using Connect The Thoughts (they link to me?)… but as a core, no… we are not using Steven’s materials any longer.
My husband and I decided (after he expressed concerns to me) to go with something more Christ-centered in content rather than “neutral” (which doesn’t exist, and although Steven has taken every effort to make his curriculum unbiased, there are small areas in which his personal bias shows through).
I could have “tweaked” the curriculum myself and made it acceptable to my husband, but the whole point was to save me work (I have, as you see, 4 students this upcoming year) and NOT have to customize stuff. Right now we are still using the wonderful text that Steven introduced us to: Civilizations Past and Present, and may be still working on some of the writing courses in the future… but as for using it for history and science and the likes, no… we really wanted a curriculum that reflected better our Christian values and beliefs.
I still think Connect the Thoughts is an excellent curriculum, it just didn’t meet our personal needs anymore… but I’d highly recommend it to anyone, especially brand new homeschoolers who are still trying to “find” themselves. It is thorough, easy to follow, independent, and trains children well in the art of “read and FULLY understand”… which is an expression I still use with my kids in other subjects like maths and music… and to go back to where your last point of understanding was and to move forward from there is good advice for anyone of any age working on any project! :o)
I hope that helps!

I would recommend this for students about pre-teen and older. I've never heard of the other course you were talking about, but it sounds younger to me... no? Maybe it is something for ME to look into for my Littles? LOL!
As I mentioned, I do think this is one of those courses (minus that one tiny section) is worth buying. I'm so glad to have used it with my Bigs, and I can't wait to use it with my Littles.
Thanks for commenting! :o)

I think you have hit the nail on the head here. I went and briefly looked at the Manners Course. It does look really good. I am just concerned about purchasing yet another something. I have the book "Polite Moments" and while it is a wonderful little book with great ideas, thoughts, etc... it still seems to be missing something. Or maybe I am not using the book properly or as intended??? Anyway, are you familiar with this book and if so, do you still think this course is a far better choice. I think Mom could use it as much as my children! ;-)

Very cool idea! Are the folders too tall for magazine holders (the kind that slip into the "spine" of the magazine and go into a binder)?

Love it! I'm just starting homeschool and love the idea of lapbooking. This fits in perfectly with my OCD tendency with organizing. Thank you!!!
